Friday Reflections: Change is Upon Me

The MOPS group that first welcomed me two years ago starts today. As those dear faces gather for fellowship, I won't be there, which saddens me. Meanwhile, I am looking forward to starting a new weekly Bible study next week.

With two daughters in school and my son at home with me, my plate is piled high. This means I cannot add another time commitment, so I let go of MOPS (reluctantly). Somehow I thought school would make life easier, but between getting ready and packing lunches and pick ups, our schedule seems fuller than ever.

Meanwhile, my little guy is getting used to having me all to himself for several mornings. This week he seems to have concluded that he really likes it! I'm trying to figure out what to do--errands are easier with one kid, but it's such a golden opportunity to sit down and spend focused time with my son; I shouldn't to be running around continually. Then there's the looming challenge of toilet training, which doesn't seem terribly compatible with my burning desire to hit the bike trail each day.

What I need to do is prayerfully sort out all these priorities. I need God to show me ways for my desires and responsibilities to coexist rather than compete.

I found your blog through the company girls. The really weird thing is I came on over here and started reading your post and thought, "whoa, this is weird. It's like reading something that I could write!" I have also had to give up MOPS this year...I am missing it too. Trying to simplify my life...not sure if it's going to work! :) Nice to meet you though.

I can relate to the feeling. When I come across a blog that I could have written (or wished I'd written!), it is both eerie and comforting to know I'm not the only one who is thinking along these lines. It's nice to "meet" you too, Tracy. =)

You just need to find that balance. I feel like once you get used to something with kids, things get changed up on you. =p There's always transition or adjustments. I also learned that you have to say no to things sometimes or we lose ourselves in the pile of stuff.

I agree, I thought life would get easier when school started, but I have a ton of things to do, and don't know where to start. I guess making a list will be the first thing.

You are wise to know your limits. Sounds like you are already prioritizing. Hang in there, this is only a season and the season's change a bunch. I'm comforted that the Lord is always ahead of me and gives me just what I need for that moment.
Have a blessed weekend!

I couldn't imagine sending my kids to school. I love the freedom homeschooling brings, but at the same time I have enrolled them in extras this year and I'm feeling it before they even get started! The calendar between now and Christmas looks full! It's something new to get used to.
